From Marine to Multifamily: Investing with Purpose & Building Community
Hey everyone, I’m Robin, based in San Francisco, and I’m actively working to acquire 4–20+ unit multifamily properties in the McAllen-Edinburg area for long-term cash flow and wealth-building.
I come from a real estate background—my dad was a general contractor and inspector with over 5,000 inspections, and my mom was an appraiser for a decade. While I may not have direct investing experience yet, real estate is in my blood, and I’ve spent years running numbers, learning the process, and preparing to make my first deal.
Right now, I’m looking for:
-Smaller properties (4–8 units) that I can finance on my own.
-Larger properties (10–20+ units) that I am aware will require a more structured operational approach and strategic partnerships.
-Opportunities near the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) in Edinburg that align with my financial goals and my mission to support veterans
Beyond investing, my long-term goal is to develop a transition housing program for student veterans—a place where veterans can live in a strong community while navigating college, career development, and civilian life. When I transitioned out, I had support that made a huge difference, but I also saw gaps that left many veterans struggling. I want to fill those gaps while building something sustainable.
I have a solid foundation of knowledge and a clear direction, but I also recognize that experience is the best teacher. I’m looking for a strategic advisor—someone who can help me identify risks I may not see, challenge my assumptions, and guide me in making sound investment decisions. I want this to be a mutually beneficial relationship, whether that’s through compensation for their time or structuring their involvement into a deal in a way that makes sense for both of us. I’m always open to investors and partners, but my priority in this case is to find someone with real-world experience in multifamily acquisitions who can provide insight without the need for constant guidance.
Who I’m Looking to Connect With:
✔ Agents & brokers specializing in multifamily (4–20+ units) ✔ Lenders who understand DSCR loans & creative financing ✔ Property managers in McAllen-Edinburg ✔ Experienced investors who can share insights & help mitigate risks
This isn’t about replacing my income—I make more than enough at my day job. It’s about building long-term wealth while creating something meaningful.
If any of this resonates with you, let’s connect! For those investing in multifamily, what’s one lesson you wish you knew before your first deal?
