Just Starting and Willing to Help to Learn

Hello everybody! I am a teacher by trade, but I am looking to get into real estate since I've been interested in it for years. Right now, I am not as interested in investing as I am in helping another investor in order to get some hands-on experience while my wife and I save a little bit more money. I would particularly love to help someone within the Atlanta area with a fixer-upper by providing some physical labor. I don't have much experience doing handy work so I would be willing to help out for free if someone is willing to teach me. My ultimate goal would be to buy fixer-uppers to turn into long-term rentals. Any pieces of advice are much appreciated!
