Investing as we move into "retirement."

Amy Smith
Posted

My husband and I are pretty new to REI. We jumped in with no clue about 18 months ago. My husband and his partners sold their company, and he is transitioning out of full time employment there in the next couple of months.

We have STR properties in Oak Island, NC. One lot has a 2 bed and one bath cottage that was an existing STR. There is a 1 bed efficiency guest house on the same lot that we have just listed as an STR. We have a third property a few bocks away that is a 3 Bed/2 bath. I am managing those and feel like I have been drinking from a fire hose. I am just beginning to get my footing. We also have one LTR in Wilmington , NC that we bought brand new and have an excellent tenant in.

That is the Cliff Notes version. We are looking into what is next. We are ready to invest in another property. We are leaning toward an LTR. I am not ready to manage another STR.

We are really clueless, but at least we jumped in.  I am hoping we can learn some things here about how to scale.

Hi Amy -

Congrats on your success so far, espeically since you and you husband and just getting into REI. Have you looked into DSCR loans? They are a great financin goption if your goal is to continue to scale.

I'm also very familiar with the NC market and happy to connect!
