Aloha Bigger Pockets community! 

I'm Andrew hailing from the Big Island of Hawaii. My wife and I are passionate about real estate and have secured our first investment property this year of 2024 on Hawaii island. We purchased our primary property here in Hawaii in 2021 and have found immense benefit from the property setup which allows us to rent out our "ohana" unit (mother in law) which covers our mortgage costs.

I'm particularly focused on local STVR (Short term vacation rental) properties that are officially licensed by the county of Hawaii to operate short term rentals. As we are relatively new to real estate, we remain open to considering other avenues such as long term rentals etc. Considering how much I enjoy meeting new people and communicating, the STR approach has been successful and enjoyable

Now we are pursuing our second investment property and are considering a property which needs some TLC and has large value added potential, considering that its in a prime location on the oceanfront. I am understanding that oceanfront properties require MUCH higher maintenance and the property in question, certainly needs a good dose. 

However, I also see the power of the location and also my understanding is that oceanfront properties have appreciated significantly faster than non-oceanfront. It appears that the increased CapEx is offset by the much higher revenues and property appreciation potential ?

I have been appreciating the Bigger Pockets wealth of information, and in fact has been a key resource to bolster our confidence and continue making strides towards more investment property. We feel more confident about real estate opportunities here on the east side of the big island, (Hilo) as we are active and hands on for management, and value added projects. 

Outside of real estate, I enjoy everything related to the ocean and simply living life together with my wife and infant son! Living in Hawaii is a dream come true for our family. I love reading and learning, and the bigger pockets community is truly a wealth education,
