Seeking advice about getting into rentals

Hello all. I’m new to the BP community and very new to the real estate community as well.  Im seeking some advice to motivate myself into making the jump into the investing lifestyle.   The people closest to me are very negative in my aspirations and I believe joining the wonderful group that BP provides can be a big help. I’m looking to get into the rental property path. Possibly renting out rooms in my first purchase as well as staying in the property myself.  Any advice will be greatly appreciated   Thank you all
