First off, been in this Bigger Pockets community about a week now, and couldn't be more glad that I joined. Thanks to everyone who is so active and helpful out there. Onto the point...

On each end of the spectrum you have "newbs" who jump into REI with no regard for the risks and without nearly enough education, just waiting to get burned...then you have those (like myself) who have spent years reading and learning but can't seem to take the leap, for fear of getting burned...

HOW do you know when you're ready to get started? All you recent first-timers and long-time investors alike... What concepts are crucial and what needs to just be learned by doing? Any essential readings/experiences/homework recommended to help gauge whether or not you are ready to jump in? Thanks
