Brand new, in the learning phase. Curious about wholesaling

I'm here reading through forum posts as a total newbie just trying to educate myself.  I'm in the market as a first time homebuyer myself.  Just this year FINALLY got to a point of having enough emergency fund and money saved for a down payment.  And not even a 20% down payment but still enough to hopefully make this happen.  Considering some kind of house hack to help me get started, but those options are still being explored as it seems to be a pretty tough market for a first time buyer. 

I thought that wholesaling may be another way to get started.  Esp without a lot of money to invest.  I'm trying to learn and network locally, nothing has come of that yet... but I'm going to keep trying!  But I'm not finding a lot of people that actually do wholesaling.  Is it worth time spent?  I just thought it might be a good way to supplement income from my 9-5, save more of a down payment.... without all the added pressures of fixing properties, being a landlord etc.  Maybe I'll get there someday but not in that position right now.  

Programs I've looked into are more money than I have to spend.  I had hopes of finding a mentor in St. Louis and in exchange for knowledge, providing whatever services they are in need of.  Don't mind some physical hard labor of cleaning out properties, cold calls, admin work etc etc.  This may not be realistic either.  I'm here to learn and will continue digging....
