New Member, Ready to Learn
Hello Everyone, I'm Kat. I am a new member and I'm here to learn what it takes to become an REI. I look forward to connecting with many of you and learning as much as I can to get started on my journey. Thank you for having me here!
Hi Kat, first of all, welcome to BiggerPockets! This is surely the best place to start networking and learning. Do you already have a specific strategyin mind for your real estate venture? For starters, I love the idea of househacking.
It allows you to significantly reduce your housing expenses by purchasing a property with multiple units or extra space, you can live in one unit and rent out the others. The rental income you receive from your tenants can help cover your mortgage payments, property taxes, and other housing expenses, making it an effective way to decrease your housing costs. Try to look it up, you might find it interesting.
Also, I always recommend the book “Rich dad, Poor dad” by Robert T. Kiyosaki to anyone starting out. Start listening to the BiggerPockets podcast starting at the very beginning and start growing your network, look on Facebook/BiggerPockets for different events, find a mentor doing what you want to do, and get to know the local lenders/brokers. All the best to your real estate journey!
Thank you for the tips and what to look into as I navigate my way about the site. I have yet to narrow down which area I'm first going to start with but almost there. I'm reading and learning day by day.
Thank you,
Kat

Welcome to BiggerPockets Katrina and best of luck investing!
Congrats, I just recently joined myself! So far I have felt very welcomed, and grateful for all the knowledge people have been willing to share. I hope you have the same experience. Nick Thomas reached out to me, and he's in VA. He might be a good person to connect with too.
Hello @Heidi Thompson, Thank you and best of luck to you as well. I'm hoping this will be a great start for my journey and I'm glad you are making some real progress here and learning lots as well.
@Katrina Welch Welcome to BiggerPockets! You're on the best platform to learn and network starting out.

Hello @Scott,
Thank you for the shout out and informing me on the content of this site. I look forward to learning much more from you all and hopefully soon as I can earn my realtor license to be able to make some investment cash and start on my journey.
I'm currently, working on finding out how to best use my current home. I'm hoping to turn this into a LTR. However, I've seen other members mention other types of rentals too so I'm going to work on educating myself on these different investment strategies.
Best regards,
Kat

You're welcome! There are a lot of strategies to take. It just depends on what you're after. Like in the Ohio market currently, if you're looking for cashflow, look into Cleveland, its got good cash flow potential with some appreciation happening as well. Looking for appreciation? Come to Columbus, there are still 1% deals, but the more attractive part is the population growth and other economic drivers! Understand the market well before jumping into and you will do well. All the best!
Hello and welcome to the BiggerPockets fam!

Hi Katrina, Welcome to BP!!!!
I would love to connect and see if I can interest you in out of state investing in some of the mid-west markets. I have used that strategy to scale my portfolio. Feel free to connect!
