dbowles1017 here in Kansas
Hey folks,
I was so impressed by Derek's E-mail to me, after I asked him for some background information, that I asked him if I could post it, and he agreed.
I will ask him to post a reply here so he can jump into the thread.
Here is is: Let's support him in his efforts!

Sure thing,
I am 18 years old, fresh out of high school. I absolutely want to get out of Kansas. I was thinking about moving to another state work for a year or so to establish residency and save money from working to afford going to college. I was accepted by the universities in Kansas, K-State, KU and WSU, but due to being in the 'middle class' scholarships are rare and the only real way to afford it is student loans, so I decided I might as well move out of Kansas now and just have student loans in another state I would actually like to live in. One of my ultimate goals is to major in kinesiology (the study of the human bodies movement), with a minor in psychology and then continue on to be a Physical Therapist. I am not really interested in being a doctor as a profession as much as I want to do it for my own knowledge. After watching endless marathons of Flip this House, Flip that House, Grandma Flipped her House and so Can You!, among all the other shows about real estate investing I decided to learn as much about it as possible. I know that the shows are not 100% accurate but I believe this is a field that my hard work would pay off in. My father has been a carpenter his entire life, so I have experience with many power tools and have seen how a construction site works. I took a couple of business classes in high school, and I have tried to convince my dad to invest in real estate, but he does not want to risk losing the money.
I have a huge range of sense of humor, and a laid back personality. However I do work hard, but in most of the jobs I have worked I might as well had just done nothing. I enjoy the outdoors, everything from rock climbing to snowboarding to camping. One of my passions in life is fitness, which I attribute to my fascination of the human mind and body.I play almost every sport and enjoy the competition and love being in high pressure situations. I would love to learn how to surf.My second passions is anything on two wheels. I love dirt bikes and motorcycles, and going fast. The faster the pace I have to go the better I perform. Behind all my athleticism lies a computer nerd. I have built computers from ground up and have never had to call a tech support guy for any computer related problem. I enjoy taking things apart to see how they work, then putting them back together. I always give 110% and can multi task well. I am a quick learner, and try to learn as much about a subject as I possibly can and then I learn some more.
I have a strong desire to succeed, and failure is just a hurdle to jump over. I am also great with kids. I want to thank you for taking the time to read all of this. It means a lot when some one is willing to stick their neck out and give a complete stranger a glimmer of hope.
