New member introduction from AK!

Caleb Hessler
Posted

I’am glad to have found this resource! I currently live in Alaska and am desperate to re-locate to the lower 48, so first of all if anybody knows of a full time job with benefits in either Idaho, Montana, Colorado or Texas (other similar states considered) that would support a wife and a new born in June, holler! I don’t have experience in anything real estate but hold a leadership compliance job with the State here that would transfer experience over to a lot of other jobs.
Once relocated and settled in I am hoping to do a house hacking/remodel type gig and renovate a bedroom into a separate entrance, mother in-law studio to Airbnb. Struggling to save a down payment. I recently re-financed my truck and cut the APR in half so that is one small step in the right direction.
At this moment re-locating seems like the biggest mountain to climb.

@Caleb Hessler to reiterate, Missoula MT is a great area (I'm located here as well). Seems like every employer is hiring these days. Lots of full-time retail jobs, construction jobs, trades, etc.  The airport is going to be hiring a lot as well I would imagine, as they're expanding. Beverage distribution (Zip Beverage; Summit Beverage) also employs a good chunk of people in the area. I would see if any offer relocation assistance or sign-on bonuses that could make moving a little easier.

For real estate investing, owner-occupied downpayments (5% I believe) really open up a lot of doors as well. East Missoula/Bonner Montana still has some sub $300k properties for sale that could work, but they would definitely need some work.

Where are you from in Alaska? I'm originally from Petersburg in Southeast AK.

The owner occupied and 5% might be doable!
I am from Fairbanks, was -38° Last week, I’ve had enough of the extreme cold
