Cost of new construction in North California

I didn't find any recent post related to this topic so I thought I'll start a new discussion. I see a lot of houses being torn down and new construction coming up in my Bay Area, California neighborhood.

I am curious to know what's the cost of constructing a new house in Bay Area would be. I know there are several factors depending on the size, quality, luxuriousness of the building, etc so looking for examples from folks with experience in the matter.

Please also list any other resources to estimate such costs.

    @Manas M.

    This is a hyper local question. I’m in Tahoe and right now it is running around $350/sq ft for semi-custom new construction. I know this from talking to General Contractors in my area.

    The best indicator for you would be to take some time and talk to multiple General Contractors that work where you are thinking of building. Keep in mind that it will be an estimate and the more special touches and adjustments you make along the way, the more that price will increase. Also, many contracts have clauses saying if material prices rise more than xx% than the contractor can raise the price During construction. Always factor in a buffer above whatever your estimate is because things will change as the project goes along.
