Can I legally take back a renter's garage and convert into an ADU

Hi everyone,

If I want to convert the garage of a duplex into an ADU, can I legally take away the current renter's garage and convert it? Would I get into problems with the regulations? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Best,

Jin

@Jin Zhang

Any question that starts with “Can I legally...” should probably be asked of an attorney. Shop around your market and there is probably a local real estate/ tenant attorney that you could run this question by for cheap or possibly even free.
