Los Angeles County ADU size question
Hi Folks,
I was looking at the LA County ADU size restrictions, and I was wondering if you could check my work (from this).
Question 1: Seems the ADU (not JADU) has to be at be at least 800 square feet (esp. if it's not detached), has be to less than 50% of the SFR, but in no case more than 1,200 square feet. So between 1,200 and 800 sq ft. Did I read that correctly?
Question 2: Can a detached ADU be less than 1,200 sq ft (e.g., 800 sq ft)? The table on the linked PDF is confusing on that point (IMHO).
Question 3: it seems LA County just recently changed the ADU regs. Do you know if the square footage limitations were part of the change?
Thanks in advance!

Question 1: There are no minimums to the size of an ADU, you can build a 350SF ADU if you wish, the maximum of 1200 SF is correct and for single story, you have a max height restriction of 16 ft.
Question 2: Absolutely, see my answer to question 1.
Question 3. I have not read up on any recent LA changes but they must not contradict the state law so it would not affect any minimum SF demands.
