Advice for a newbie thirsty for real estate

Hello investors and real estate people, Being my first post, I’ll start by thanking everyone who weighs in on this matter. I’m a Sr. Web Developer in the San Fernando Valley area. I have equal passion for technology and real estate but due to the high priced barrier to entry in real estate, I have only succeeded in the technology part currently working in the toy industry. In real estate, I have a few investments in reits and my own home but my goal is to own cashflowing properties. My current plan is to use my biggest asset (web programming and marketing skills) to learn the ropes of real estate investing and start investing towards financial freedom. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of career listings for web development in the job markets in my area. And the few that exist don’t seem to value programming very well when it comes to compensation. What would you advise a person in my position?
