How to find STR (Airbnb; VRBO) laws

What is the best way to stay updated on current STR (Airbnb; VRBO) laws in my city? -- Should we look at the county website? I keep seeing warnings which state "it is the owner's responsibility to stay updated with the STR regulations for their city" -- yet, I do not see how we are expected to when there is not a specific place or website to refer to.

Then again, maybe I am simply uninformed.
