Short Term Rentals and HOAs

Hi BP community!

I'm looking into some vacation rentals in the Smoky Mountains as well as the Lake Norman area of North Carolina. I was just wondering from any other STR investors out there if you have a quick easy way to find out if the various HOAs allow STRs or not. Is there some kind of registration or list out there with STR friendly HOAs vs non friendly ones?

Let me know if you have some ideas.

In general HOA's have final right of refusal for allowing STRs in a community and HOA bi-laws can vary greatly between communities, states and municipalities. Long story short, you need to contact the HOAs directly you are curious about and ask them or have your agent request a copy of their bi-laws...generally speaking.
