180 Day Limit on Whole House Short Term Rental in San Jose, CA

I like to hear about experiences in renting out a whole house as a vacation rental in San Jose.  How do you overcome the 180 day limit within a year and be profitable compared to long-term rental?  The other half of the year do you rent it out as a corporate/furnished rental for 30 days or more for less than market rate?

I am looking at it as an option for a home in South San Jose.
