hello im new to the short term rental business and im in planning stages right now. Im trying to get a grasp of how this works "codes" and city/county zone permitting to let you do short term rental on your property how does that work . also I've herad something about uninercity & innercity zones whats the difference, don't know what does that mean ? any help will be greatly appreciated thank you

Short term rentals are very hard to come by in the Chicago market because most HOA's have rules against them. It sounds to me that you need a local broker to help you understand where an Airbnb type of business would work, and then within that area which buildings will allow it.
