Best Short-Term Rental Markets in California with Easier Permit Processes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to invest in short-term rentals in California but want to focus on markets that have a relatively smooth and less restrictive process for obtaining permits. I’m already aware of the popularity of Joshua Tree and Lake Tahoe, so I’m interested in hearing about other markets that are strong performers and investor-friendly in terms of regulations.

Does anyone have insights on:

  • Specific cities or regions where the permit process is more straightforward?
  • Markets with good demand for vacation rentals and potential for solid returns?
  • Any upcoming or emerging markets that should be on the radar?

I appreciate any advice or experiences you can share!

Hi Sipan,

Permitting is the STR secret sauce. I'm familiar with a few areas more east that perform very well and there are some active vacation rentals with healthy income records on the market there as well. I'll shoot you a DM with my contact details.
