From Montreal looking into buying my first property in the US. Adirondack STR

Posted

Hello all, I am from Montreal, Quebec and own a duplex locally. I am looking to diversify and start with either buying a lot of land to build on or a fixer upper to turn into a STR in the upstate NY Adirondack area (2 hours drive for me). But also use if it's not rented.

I am looking for recommendations for a realtor that works in that area. + if they are knowledgable about the STR market in the area.

Has anyone had success with STR in the Adirondack area that would like to share tips/tricks or things to stay away from.

Thanks so much

Lake Placid has made it almost impossible to break into the STR market.

Wilmington (next door to Lake Placid) is also working to regulate the STR market, town is in the early stages of setting the rules.
