VRBO customer calls to reschedule!

We got a reservation for our little cabin on the river last Saturday night at 9:45 PM, on Sunday at 1 PM I get a phone call. The guy says oops I made a mistake. Can we come in October instead of next weekend, and I said sure just cancel your booking and rebook. Big mistake! VRBO says since I cancelled the reservation then I need to reimburse them because they were inside the window of no refund🤷‍♂️ I was confused and there was no way I was refunding money to someone that I never got money from in the first place but it all worked out, VRBO refunded them their money, and they are going to come next October when they rebook. From now on my response is “talk to VRBO”!
