STR Pros, investors and business partners...how savvy is the average STR host?

Hey all, I've been doing some market research lately and was struck by how few STR hosts with fewer than 20 or so listings take it seriously as a business. Do most of the smaller hosts/investors you know still just want the property to pay for itself so they can go on vacation for free? Curious about the experiences you're having with the hosts you know.

I think some STR investors don't think of themselves as investors and come from the hospitality industry. I also think some STR investors don't think of themselves as hosts and that also causes problems (another conversation to have!)

But! BiggerPockets is the center of the venn diagram between "investors" and "hospitality" IMO!
