Dear all, I am trying to find out if I need an STR license for a STR in Milwaukee. I called the county clerk and they were not sure. Is there any place where I can find this information? Thanks in advance.

Hi Neil, you need a “Tourist Rooming House Permit”. This is a statewide requirement, but is handled locally by health departments.

The city of Milwaukee makes little effort to make it public knowledge that this is required which is why many are under the assumption that there is no licensure whatsoever required in Milwaukee, however that is not true. You’ll need to contact the Environmental Section of the Department of Neighborhood Services. They’ll email you a couple of forms to fill out, and then schedule an inspection.
