Airbnb non-smoking property, guest asking to smoke on patio

Posted

So I just started Airbnb with a property and I had a message from a potential guest asking if it's okay if they smoke on the patio even though the listing says no smoking. Has anyone dealt with this or situations like this? I'm concerned that smoking outside would end up making the property stink and no longer make it usable as a non-smoking property. Would it be better to just deny the inquiry? I really don't want the headache of trying to get smoke smell out of the property. Unless, there are some easy tips for removing smoking smells, I'm leaning towards telling the guest no because even if they smoke outside the smell will inevitably follow them. With that being said, does anyone have tips or tricks for removing smoking smells in case there's a guest that brings it inside?

I don't see the big deal and think it's unreasonable to enforce a no-smoking policy on the entire property. If they smoke outdoors, ask them to smoke at least ten feet from any door or window and to wait a few minutes before walking in so they don't drag the odor with them.
