Hi all,
So I have to believe I'm not the only one out there who's been looking for a meetup in the Poughkeepsie area!
This real estate market has tremendous opportunity, and we have a great local network of people doing big things here daily.
I am new to bigger pockets, but not new to real estate investing or Poughkeepsie's market. That said, it seemed smart to kick off a meetup here locally with the hopes of connecting the local real estate network with the bigger pockets network!
The event will be held at the brand new Kings Court Brewery on Cannon street in Poughkeepsie! The brewery is in a great new building called 40 Cannon that has 40 plus units and was rebuilt entirely in the past year. It's a fantastic example of what's happening here!
This event will be free, casual, and open to the public. No agenda other than getting our network more connected. Please share and let me know if you plan to attend! I am also working to pull great investors in the area that are not yet in the biggerpockets circle to this event as well.
Looking forward to meeting you there!
Best,
Chris
Hi Chris,
I'm Roberto and I am pretty new to BP and a complete newbie to REI. I live across the river from PK in Marlboro and am looking to purchase my first RE property in the Mid Hudson area - Ulster/Orange/Dutchess. Still in the learning stages but while I am a newbie to RE I am not a newbie to life. Have had a successful business/professional career and now looking to enter the next stage of my life. Hoping to get a chance to attend meet-ups anywhere in the areas noted above and to meet folks who are already doing this and those that are also learning. Hope to see you there.
Many of the properties I've recently looked at, happen to be in this area. I'd love to chat with you some time @Christopher Mansfield and @Roberto Ramirez about a JV on a deal. I'm still looking to get my first one under my belt and would love to collaborate some time when you guys are free!
@Lee Burns and @Roberto Ramirez,
Glad to hear the interest! I did my first two deals this year both in Poughkeepsie.
First deals area always a scary step but its been incredible thus far!
Beyond that I'm in employed in architectural / development so I'm fortunate enough to see the growth happening from that perspective.
I think this is a fantastic area to find a first deal! There's a lot being planned right around the location of the meetup that I'm excited to share.
Looking forward to meeting you both and talking more!!
Hey Chris, I invest in Poughkeepsie and also agree it's a pretty good market. I'd like to hear and talk more about it so I'll see you guys at the brewery on the 30th. Thanks for setting this up.
If you guys have no plans tonight we have a meetup at the icehouse in Poughkeepsie at 6. Wholesale cabinet company is speaking and Ted from Sherwin Williams is doing raffles
Nice group.
Hi Chris,
I'm also actively looking at investment opportunities in the Poughkeepsie, NY area. Yes, you are correct about the tremendous opportunity in this market. Similar to the Peekskill, NY market over the years. I'm not sure If I'll be able to make the meet-up, but will try if my schedule permits.

We have two properties in the town of Poughkeepsie, renting to college students. That market has changed dramatically so we will likely be changing direction very soon. I'm going to try to make this meetup but coming up from the city on a weeknight could be tough. Love to meet some other investors in the area.
Thanks @Christopher Mansfield for sharing this. I'll be coming out to this event.
Hi,
I'm excited about the meeting. I have one house I'm flipping in Poughkeepsie (my first in Pok), 3 others in Orange, and just sold two in Orange. I've found Poughkeepsie (town) very hard to work in, successfully. Getting a plumber who is on the town list has been slow, painful, and expensive. Presumably there are rewards for those that learn the system - although what I'm seeing is investors buying at inflated prices.
Evin
@Elvin Lederman that's very helpful info. Hope to talk to you more at the meeting.
@Evin Lederman I would certainly agree with the challenges you mention. I think its very important to differentiate the town and the City of Poughkeepsie. Two totally different markets and local governments. We can talk about both!
I am new to RI, and am looking forward to networking with investors in my area! Thanks for organizing this, Chris!
2.5 hour journey in one direction. I can't make it :(
Good afternoon gentlemen, does any one have any information in this area about DSS housing. Department of Social Services has a great program for landlords on Long Island that I utilize but was trying to find information about it elsewhere. I got in contact with a few people in Greene county and figured this would be a good spot to also bring it up. Thanks!
Id love to meet up. May 30th does not work due to other commitments. I have now over 20 years investing in Poughkeepsie. been slowly building inch by inch. I have 3 I am working on now. 1 I am super excited about renovating. If any of you come across the super ugly types that is too much for a newbie, let me know. I take on projects that others would knock down.
Yes, the market in the city is changing. Yes, I see investors overpaying. To renovate these old homes is not cheap if you do it right and the appraisal values still are not catching up with the actual renovation costs and rental revenue. ......... Yet........
Hi all.
Just wanted to say looking forward to tonight and meeting all that can make it out! Also working hard to get some other people out that aren't in this network but are great resources to investing here. See you tonight!
Unfortunately cant attend this meetup, but would definitely have interest in attending the next!
Hi all,
We will be doing this meetup again tomorrow night. It's posted on the events page but just wanted to be sure everyone knows. Hope to see you there!!
Hi all!
It’s exciting to find this group! I just bought a home in Beacon that I’ll turn into a house hacking situation at some point in the near future, and have the goal of buying a 2 unit (or larger) in 2020.
Poughkeepsie is an area of interest for me, so I’m excited for the next meeting!
Hi All,
When and where will the next meeting will be held .
Hi @Christopher Mansfield, are meetups still going on in Poughkeepsie?
