Cable Provided-Can it be changed?

I'm looking at an 8 unit where the cable is currently being provided by the property owner.  The added expense to the bottom line is $5,500 per year.  The units are in an old home that was converted to rentals sometime ago.  Are there logistical reasons why cable might have to be provided by the landlord (i.e. getting back to it being a converted home)? I have a 4-unit converted where each unit has its own cable service paid by them.  Does this come down to simply the owner who converted it chose to offer cable included and now if I didn't want to I would have to likely pay a pretty penny to the cable company?
