Application Fees: run and charge for both adults?

Hi community!

I'm starting my first ever round of applicants for my first door.  If 2 adults are applying (not married), do I run background/credit checks on both adults?  If so, do I charge the $38 (RentPrep smart move) PER applicant, that then goes toward their security deposit?

Does your opinion on the matter change if it is a married couple applying together?

Thank you for your opinions and insights!

Lisa

What state is the home in?

Yes, you should run (in my opinion) checks on everyone that is over 18 no matter if they are related or not.  And yes, we do charge each a fee and no that is not something we count towards the SD but we are not required to in our state, your state may differ.  That is why if you list what state the home is in you may get more targeted info.

Some states don't allow you to charge an app fee.
