Foundation Questions: Brick and Trees right on sides of the house

Posted

Hi All,

I am a rookie looking to purchase my first house hack. I found a 1940s duplex that I love the numbers of. However, I know foundational issues are key to check out before purchasing. Here you see some brick of the base of the house loose. Also, there are several trees rooted right at the base of the house. Because they are so close to the foundation, could that be a potential problem. Or could it be a potential problem to remove it? I really want to go after this deal, but I with foundational issues possibly being a larger expense, I want to have more knowledge of it before making a decision if anyone has experience with similar situations. Thank you so much!

Hard to say without looking inside. The small sapling shouldn't be a problem. The large trees look like an issue, but you'll only know by going inside and investigating.

Removal is a little more difficult with proximity to the house, but it's not going to double the price or anything you need to worry about.
