Section 8 tenant not allowed to pay over fair market rent?

Hello,

I'm currently in the process of approving a section 8 applicant for one of my units. The case worker said the max rent they can pay is $1830/mo and not the full $2050 we advertised it for.... I talked to the tenant and they said they are 100% OK paying the difference but the case worker at section 8 said that she can't do that and it may cause the tenant to lose their benefits.

Has anyone dealt with this? Is this accurate information?

Thanks!

Well if there is one thing that is clear as mud now, it is Sec. 8 rules : )  Clearly they differ region by region.
