Gas leak in rental building

Hello Forum,

I currently am renting out an SRO in NYC where a gas leak was found.  My question is how bad does the leak need to be for me to have to move the tenants out?  Also, the tenants are on a month to month so what provisions, if any, do I need to do for them under these circumstances?

You should call the gas company. They will conduct a test to determine the level of the leak and whether it's dangerous. They may be able to pinpoint where it's leaking from. Then have a plumber repair it. Gas leaks are usually simple fixes and not that expensive.

Whatever you do, don't ignore it or sit on it for a while.
