Chicago Security Deposit Advice

Mike Swanson
Posted

Unfortunately I did not provide a receipt for the security deposit I received from my tenants 3 years ago in the City of Chicago. I also did not provide a yearly interest payment as required. My question is: if I return the security deposit plus the interest I owe them before the end of the lease, can they still come after me for the penalties (2x the security deposit plus legal fees)? Of course this assumes they accept the payment from me for the security deposit plus interest. This is for a condo unit and I only own one unit in the complex. Thanks!
