Certificate of Occupancy - CA

I just purchased a property in Loma Linda, San Bernardino County with the intention to rent out the rooms in the house. I was doing some research on California Tenant Law and came across something interesting.

Do any of you know if it's required to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy for renting rooms in a SFH? I read that it's required for rental units but wasn't sure if this applies to an owner occupied property SFH.
