Window in Shower/Tub area

Just had some long term tenants leave. There is a full (24x52) vinyl window (tiled in) in the shower/tub area. The window is 30+ years old, i don't remember who the manufacturer was and the label is probably on the frame somewhere. The spiral balance was busted and mold was forming in between the glass. I was able to replace it with a window from a similar size stairwell window. But it leads me to question what do you do in your units to protect the window? I was thinking inside the frame vinyl blinds or vinyl pull down shade.
