Kitchen Countertop for Rental Unit

We are looking for some expert advice! We are redoing a duplex, one side, and thought of putting granite in but ran into a $2,000 roadblock, bedroom wall had carpenter ants so we would like to cut some corners, and thinking for this rental we don't need the granite countertop. What do you all use in your remodels for kitchen countertops, we are currently considering laminate. Since it is a rental we don't feel we need to put in the granite for resale value. Any advice is appreciated!

Look at local homes for rent in the area of the duplex online and see what they are doing.  That is the best way to know what the local market is doing and what most tenants will expect for the price range.  Be sure to look local.
