Landlord ternant dispute advise

So my tenant burnt a counter top. And I want them to pay for the change of the whole kitchen counter top so that all of it will match the same color. It cost 2600 to do that. Is that a right decision?

the counter tops have been there for 12 years and I have not seen any color that matches exactly.

It's 12 years old; the lifespan of most Formica counter tops in a rental is 10 years.  So, if you took the cost of $2600 and divided it over 12 years, the annual cost is $217 for replacement. That's what you can expect if this goes to small claims court:  you're not entitled to a new counter - just the depreciated value of one.  But that's not the issue.  This can be repaired.
An internet search for "how to repair burned Formica counter top" brings 38,800 results.

Do the search, do the repair, and charge the tenant the cost of that.
