JADU in So. California

Posted

I have a 480sqft family room connected to the main house via a 5x9 hallway.  I’d like to build a bathroom in that space and convert the family room into a JADU, adding a kitchen to the space for my son and his wife

That being said, my question is:

Can a JADU be connected to the main house through a Jack and Jill type bathroom, with no other access to the main house? The family room already has a door to the outside of the house.  Is there any building or safety codes that would restrict or prohibit this type of connection between main house and JADU?

Eventually I’ll rent it out, however for now I’d rather save some money by permitting it as a JADU due the easier process.  Thanks in advance
