Since this new law change on Section 8 in RI  I have gotten calls on Section 8 vouchers from Massachusetts for a Rhode Island property.  Are MA vouchers good in  Rhode Island and if so who decides what the voucher pays?  Isn't it just the the county rate the property is in ?  not the sending county..   I really thought they would need to keep the voucher in the state it was issued in.

@Colleen F. I found this How to Transfer a Section 8 Voucher to Another State page which basically has the info @Nathan Gesner said, with slightly more detail.

I think it's a supply and demand thing. If you have plenty of other interest from non-section 8 people, then put it back on the section 8 folks calling you from Mass; tell them they need to do the work to find out if they can move their voucher, and then they can call you back when they've done it.

If you were struggling to rent it then you might have to be proactive and call the PHA yourself to ask about the process so you could guide any potential renters through it. But I'm guessing that's not the situation you're in, as most stuff that's fairly priced is renting fast these days.
