Calcemine ceilings? any experience?

Hi guys,

I haven't been around much been a busy summer managing properties. I have come across an issue I have never encountered before.....

I bought a house built in the 40s and turns out the ceilings were painted with calcemine based paint. Come to learn that when you go over that with latex based EVERYTHING starts peeling!!!! I havebeen reading up on it and it seems there is no easy fix but to scrape, prep, prime and repaint the plaster ceilings all over...

So I now have 5 ceilings that are a complete mess peeling flaking ETC...

HAs anyone else been through this nightmare before? Is there some kind of sealer or base I Can get away with putting on to cover up and seal the calcemine or is the only real fix scrapingt everything down to the plaster and starting over?

I Am sure J Scott you have dealt with this with all your rehabs? Well, maybe not if most of your purchases were post 1950s...

anyway, hope everyone is having a prosperous summer thus far...

Chris
