Should landlord subsidize ring protection plan?

We rent out the rooms individually in a single family house. We recently installed a ring security camera on the front door. We told the tenant's we'd add the $3/month plan to their utilities to have 24/7 access to the footage. However, they claim, "Under CAL CIV Code 1714, landlords have duty to take reasonable steps to protect tenants from foreseeable criminal acts of another" and that the front door area is considered "common area" and it is the landlord's duty to make sure it's safe, thus we should pay for the plan,

The $3/month is not much, but is it our responsibility for the activities that happen outside of the house that we can't control? Would love to hear anybody's insights/experience on this?
