Section of Neighboring Privacy Fence Fell Down

Austin Beggs
Posted

Hello! I bought my first rental property in November 2020! It is in a neighborhood walking distance to a Big 10 school with a college rental on one side and homeowners on the other side.

On the college rental side, a storm blew down a section of the bordering privacy fence. My tenants said they have spoken to the residents who live in the neighboring house neither of them is sure who owns the fence. It looks like the neighbors have that style of fence elsewhere on their property whereas we do not so it makes me believe it is their fence. The section of the fence is laying partially in our yard. The neighboring property is owned by an LLC and not managed by one of the local property management companies. I couldn't find any info about the fence in the property record cards etc so not sure what the next step is. It is in my properties best interest to have the fence repaired but also I would feel weird going and fixing someone else's fence.

Let me know your thoughts!

-Austin
