Renting half of my house, Dose need permit for rental

I am buying a Duplex in Stockton. It's a duplex and the price does reflect that fact. 1st unite 2Bd/2Ba 2nd Unit 2Bd/2Ba. Each unit has it's separate entrance. i bought as FHB and that require to leave in unit and i can rent out the other unit, as usual. but i don't want move to unit i want rent it both of them, Dose i need permit from city to rent out both of them or i can do via Airbnb or there is legal  way to rent out.
