How to search permits in Suffolk County, NY

Hi Everyone, 

I have a rental property in Suffolk County NY in the town of Islip. It is already a 2 family property, but i would like to convert the 3 car garage into a an accessory unit. I am having a really hard time deciding what Architect/Contractor I can use. I would like to work with someone that I know has a proven history of getting permits approved with this specific town. 

My initial though was to look up approved permits and figure out what architects are getting this done, however, I have searched and I can not find a way to see Permits filed in this town. I would think this is public information, does anyone have any clue or idea on how I can search through construction permits?
