Utility usage confirmation in Texas?

I am looking at two rental properties for purchase. I called the electricity supplier for one and was told that usage information is not available unless my name is on the account, with the reason being that it's a Texas privacy law and not a company policy issue. Is there any other action a potential landlord could take to verify rent history lines up with the seller's representation? My seller has seven properties, so even a Schedule E request may not be terribly illuminating. Thanks as always.
