Tenant in illegal basement unit

Good day everyone,

I live in Chicago, IL and I recently bought a property which came with tenants.

There is a difficult tenant living In an ilegal basement unit. He is on a month to month contract.

What is the best way to go about getting rid of him?

I really don’t want anyone living in an ilegal unit, and he is backed up with the rent as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
