Landlord broke lease on move in day

Posted

We signed a lease and gave the landlord our deposit. It was cashed and we met her the day/night of move in (with our moving pod ready to be unloaded); only to find the home still in poor condition.  We honestly felt bad that she had paid”professionals” to clean carpets and do a move out/in cleaning.  We walked in to dirty floors, windows, a great deal of mold under kitchen sink, carpets trimmed in black dirt.

Noticed HVAC unit was corroded(no, I didn’t see it well enough prior).  Carpets smelled of urine; patches and clearly mismatched paint; front door key/lock not working correctly.  Even she had issues upon arrival and asked us to help her open the door.
She felt like we were “asking too much”.  We offered to call cleaning people to come back and make good on the money she spent and even paint the walls (all of which were left filthy, literally).  She became agitated and called her husband, hung up and said “we just cancel then”.

Supposed to send us our deposit check...
