What Was Your Experience With Section 8?

I found reference to the gosection8 website on another post for estimating rentals. Out of curiosity I went to the site to see exactly what type of rentals were being offered. I have to admit my own preconceived notions because when I spent my 20's in a rundown complex, I knew people on Section 8 that we're great people who just needed a little help. And the direct opposite kind of people were also on Section 8. I knew this because a member of my family who managed the property liked to give us all the tea about residents, unsolicited.

My point is that I found A properties for lease through Section 8 website and I assumed (wrongly) that they would be in C or below areas. Has anyone in Texas, or elsewhere, had any experience with Section 8 rentals of their own? Please and thanks!
