Chicago landlord protection if tenant needa to sublet

Emily Goldman
Posted

Hi!

I have a tenant in Chicago who has to move for a job and by law, I have to let him sublet. Would love any advice to ensure I protect myself.

1. Screening tenants: he needs to ask for recent paystubs, pull credit, ask for 2 references...am I missing anything?

2. What service do folks use to check credit?

3. Do you then ask them both to sign a subleasing agreement?

Any advice on someone who has had to deal with this would be much appreciated!
