Airbnb a non permitted area

My mom has a studio apt off the back of her garage that she added years ago as an entrainment room/ guest suit. Now she is wanting to use this space as a source of income, however it is not permitted. The county requires a permit for short term rentals but how can she? Anyone have this problem?

In your initial post, I'm not sure what you mean "it's not permitted". Do you mean airbnb isn't permitted? Or do you mean the space she wants to use for an airbnb wasn't built with proper permitting? If it's the former, probably not much you can do. If it's the latter, try to see if you can get it resolved.
