Tenants who are hoarders

Lynda McAlonie
Posted

We sadly had a long term tenant pass away recently.  He was a real hoarder, like the TV show.  He has been in the apartment since 1964.  Fourteen years ago, we bought the duplex (and the duplex next to it),  and he came with it.  The damage to the apartment and work that will need to be done comes to around $20,000. He doesn't have a next of kin that we are aware of.  The Summit County ME's office will do what they can to locate a next of kin but we have no idea who that would be.  Does anyone have any experience with challenging the estate for damages done to your property?
