Leaving Tenants taking Movers to Small Claims Court

I had great tenants that hired movers to move out. The movers when they moving thing put a hole in a metal stair tread.

I know that the stairs were rusted in areas but they were still sound. The tenant let me know that the movers put the hole in the stair.

I notified the tenants that I would be holding the deposit to pay for the cost of repairing the stair.

The quotes that I received for replacing the one stair was between $400-$700.

The tenant has decided to go after the moving company in small claims court, and I have helped to provide pictures and the quotes I received.

Does anyone have any experiences with this type of situation, I am wondering if I need to get a lawyer as well. Anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.
